Malaysia–Saudi Arabia relations refers to the current and historical relationship between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has an embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and Malaysia has an embassy in Riyadh. Relations, both diplomatic and economic, are quite close between the two Muslim-majority Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members. Additionally, there is a sizeable population of Malaysian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia.

The two states signed a security pact in January 2010.[1] The Saudi ambassador to Malaysia is H.E. Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Rashid[2]

History

The relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in the early 1960 is based on mutual respect and work to develop this relations in all fields. This distinguished relations has continued between the two countries at all levels. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia receives great respect in all official milieus and public and Muslim communities, the unity of religious belief and spiritual ties has form a solid foundations of the relations between Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, whereas the political relations between the two countries based on understanding and mutual respect, this led to set up the diplomatic relations between the two countries in the middle of the 1961 by opening the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Kuala Lumpur, and Malaysia Embassy in Jeddah.[3]

The Relationship

The Saudi - Malaysia relations can be described as a long-standing relationship and natural, the political relations between the two countries in the stages of its development has passed a great deal of excellence during the seventh decade of the last century, Malaysia has played a significant role after Al - Aqsa Mosque fire in the late 1960s of the last century, led to establishment of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, this period has culminated by a royal visit of His Majesty King Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud -Allah bless his soul - to Malaysia in the summer of 1970.[4]

The third millennium witnessed a remarkable development in relations and the high-level contacts, and the visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud to Malaysia at the end of January 2006 aimed to devote the relations between the two countries and their development in various fields and open new area for cooperation.[5]
