Martine Leavitt is a Canadian American writer of young adult novels and a writing teacher.

Biography

Leavitt was born in 1953 in Alberta, Canada.[1] She received a Bachelor of Arts degree, first class honours, from the University of Calgary and a Master of Fine Arts from Vermont College.[2] She has seven children and seventeen grandchildren and lives with her husband in Alberta, Canada.[2]

Leavitt writes contemporary realism and fantasy novels, and short stories for young adults. Her books have been translated into German, Italian, Danish, Dutch, Japanese, and Korean. Keturah and Lord Death was a finalist for the National Book Award.[3] Leavitt currently teaches in the MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Awards

Leavitt's books have won many awards, including winner of the 2003 Mr. Christie Award for Tom Finder, finalist for the 2006 National Book Award for Keturah and Lord Death, finalist for the 2004 Governor General's Awards for Heck Superhero, and winner of the Canadian Library Association Young Adult Book Award for My Book of Life by Angel in 2013.
