Massimo Gramellini (born October 2, 1960) is an Italian writer and journalist, actually working at Corriere della Sera.

Life and career

Born in Turin in 1960, his family comes from from Romagna. At the age of nine he tragically lost his mother, Giuseppina Pastore: seriously ill and depressed, she suicided throwing herself out of the fifth floor. Nobody had the courage to reveal the details to the little Massimo;[1] his father told him that he had died of a fulminating heart attack. This episode that will mark him deeply throughout his life. He will discover the true many years later, in the mid-1990s, reading a 1969 newspaper article.

He has published books and articles about Italian society and politics, an almanac about 150 years of History of Italy (with Carlo Fruttero) and two series of tales on his soccer-team Torino F.C.. On 2010 he publishes his first novel, L'ultima riga delle favole (The last line of fables), that sold over 250,000 copies in Italy and was translated into several countries. On 2012, he released his second novel, Fai bei sogni (Have good dreams), which was the best-selling book of 2012 with over one million copies.[2]

From autumn 2016, he presents Le parole della settimana on the talk show Che tempo che fa.

After 28 years at newspaper La Stampa, from 2017 he collaborates with Corriere della Sera[3]

On several occasions he was accused (notably by the Sinti[4]) in the columns of Il Buongiorno and Il Caffé, of being racist and using populist arguments.[5]

Personal life

He was married with the journalist Maria Laura Rodotà, daughter of lawyer Stefano Rodotà.
