Miro Weinberger (born February 25, 1970) is an American politician and the incumbent mayor of Burlington, Vermont,[3] in the United States.
Political life
Weinberger was formerly a member of the airport commission for the Burlington International Airport.[4] He was the Chittenden County Democratic Chair during the 2004 election cycle.[5]
Mayor of Burlington
Weinberger was elected mayor of Burlington on March 6, 2012. He is the first Democratic mayor since U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders took office in 1981.[3] In the election for Mayor, Weinberger was endorsed by Sanders as well as former Progressive Mayor Peter Clavelle and Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin.[3] Weinberger won with 57.7% of the vote.[3] He was re-elected to a second term on a state holiday, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 (Town Meeting Day in Vermont[6]).
Personal
Weinberger married Stacy Sherwat in 2000, and they have two daughters, Li Lin and Ada.[1][4][5] He plays catcher for the Burlington Cardinals in an over-35 men's baseball league.[7][8] Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Bill Lee is also on the team.[4] In addition to politics, Weinberger was also formerly board president of the Turning Point Center for Chittenden County, and served on the board of the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center.[5]
