Miss World 1986, the 36th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 13 November 1986 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. The winner was Giselle Jeanne-Marie Laronde (Queen of Americas) from Trinidad & Tobago. She was crowned by Miss World 1985, Hólmfríður Karlsdóttir of Iceland. Runner-up was Pia Rosenberg Larsen (Queen of Europe) representing Denmark and third was Chantal Schreiber from Austria.

Notes:

  • In 1986, there were twelve preliminary judges who each gave the contestants a score of 2, 3, or 4. This meant that the contestants could receive a minimum score of 24 and a maximum of 48.
  • The 1986 rules required that at least one contestant from each continent advanced to the top 15 semi-final round. This is why Miss Philippines, as the best contestant from Asia (score of 32) and Miss Swaziland, as the best from Africa (score of 26) qualified, while both Miss Gibraltar and Miss Sweden (with a score of 33) did not.

  • The preliminary swimsuit competition was held in Macau, China.
  • Ireland won the Miss Photogenic award for the third time.
  • The Parade of Nations was held outside of the main stage for the first time, which was shot in the Ruins of St. Paul's, Macau.
  • Swaziland made the semi-finals for the first time since its debut in 1975.
  • Philippines is the only Asian country who made the top 15.
  • 10 out of 15 countries which made it into the semi-finals, were not in the semi-finals the previous year: Ecuador (1970), Costa Rica (1978), Panama (1979), Denmark, Philippines, and Trinidad & Tobago (1982), Yugoslavia (1983), Austria, and Colombia (1984).
  • USA, Halle Berry, became a successful actress, winning the 2001 Best Actress Oscar for Monster's Ball.
  • British Virgin Islands, Anthonia Brenda Lewis, died of cancer in 2000.
  • Isle of Man is the last Craig sister who competed in Miss World. Her two sisters competed in Miss World in 1979 & 1982, respectively.
