Moov, Inc. is a fitness wearable company based in Mountain View, California. The Moov device pairs with mobile device software to provide personal artificial intelligence coaching in running & walking, cardio boxing, swimming, cycling and body weight workout. Moov is an active activity tracker that gives real-time coaching and feedback to promote improvement and aid in sports injury prevention.[1]

Moov began a crowdfunding campaign run through their own website on February 27, 2014 and met their $40,000 goal in 90 minutes.[2] The company went from crowdfunding to shipping in 5 months, with the first shipments sent out in late July 2014.[1] Founders Nikola Hu, Tony Yuan, and Meng Li have combined experience working for companies including Apple, Microsoft Research, Bungie, and Nokia.[1]

Moov Device

The Moov device uses 3 sensors to form a 9-axis sensing system that can recreate motion in 3D. An LED ring around the face of the Moov lights up to communicate connection and battery information and the device connects wirelessly using Bluetooth 4.0 or Bluetooth SMART. Moov comes with a wrist strap, an ankle band and a charger. The device is compatible with all iOS devices equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 and Android devices with Bluetooth 4.0 and a BLE API that allows third-party app code to access BLE. The battery lasts for up to two weeks and charges with the included Moov charger.

Moov Coaching

Moov coaching is based on creating workout efficiency through a combination of levels (intensity), interval training, form, and variety. Users can gradually increase level intensity and monitor their improvement, while interval training increases workout efficiency by varying heart rate and pushing users to their fullest potential during intervals.

Using actionable insights based on real-time data of exact movements, Moov helps to prevent injury and promote improvement. Moov’s multiple sport apps and programs provide variety to prevent users' bodies from getting used to a work out and burning fewer calories.

Moov Mobile Apps

Moov is offering five launch apps: run & walk, cardio boxing, swimming, cycling and body weight workout.[3] The apps are being released one at a time, with run & walk, cardio boxing, swimming, and 7 Minute+ (body weight workout) currently available for iOS and cycling due for release in 2015. Moov has also recently released its Run & Walk and 7 Minute+ apps for Android.[4][5]

Funding

Moov received early seed funding, but received most support through a crowdfunding campaign run through their website which began on February 27, 2014.[6] The company met their $40,000 crowdfunding goal in 90 minutes and sold out $1 million worth of Moovs in 15 days.[2][6] The first batch of Moovs were shipped in the end of July, with only 5 months between crowd-funding and delivery.

In October 2014, the company announced $3 million in Series A funding from Banyan Capital, a China-based venture capital firm.[7]
