Background

Jesse Cooper started making mixtapes as "Jay Fresh" on the weekends. At first, He mostly made hip hop mixes with his boys which included Harley Rayner in 2002 but decided to instead make dubstep after he heard Benga and Skream at the New Zealand festival Phat09 and Splore in 2008 had his "mind blown" by the young genre.[9] He also started making some drum and bass around the same time which was inspired by the Front Left Speaker Crew and Joe Hockey.
One of the first songs Mt Eden made public was "Sierra Leone" (a remix of Freshlyground's "I'd Like"[3]), which he uploaded and posted on his Myspace page, but it didn't go viral until a fan posted the track on YouTube.[4]
In 2008, Jesse's girlfriends little brother suggested he make a YouTube page for him self to post music on. He called the page "MtEdenDnB08" because he lived in Mt Eden. That was when Jesse Cooper decided to call himself Mt Eden Dubstep, later changing his name to just simply Mt Eden in 2010 when Jesse recruited Harley. Many of his songs he posted on his YouTube page received millions of views over time, resulting in his fanbase growing rapidly.
