Murr Television (marketed and widely known as MTV Lebanon) is a Lebanese television station based in Naccache, Metn District. MTV was founded by Michel Gabriel El Murr, its chairman and CEO to date. MTV is one of the leading Television Stations in Lebanon and the Middle East.[citation needed]

Early stages

MTV was established by Michel Gabriel El Murr in 1991 as a TV channel.[1] The channel aimed to raise the standard in local Lebanese television in terms of Arab and western media content that would reflect the Lebanese people’s aspirations and values.[citation needed]

MTV shutdown and re-opening

MTV was closed down on 4 September 2002 by the Lebanese government due to its criticisms over the then-President Emile Lahoud.[2] On 7 April 2009 MTV re-opened three years after Syrian forces left Lebanon.[3][citation needed]
