Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. The Nantucket Film Festival is a film festival founded in 1996 which focuses on screenwriting. Board Members include Ben Stiller, Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, Ted Leonsis and Tom Scott.

History

The Nantucket Film Festival was founded by siblings Jill Burkhart and Jonathan Burkhart, who grew up on the island. In 1997, Mystelle Brabbée joined them and now serves as Executive Director.[1]

The Nantucket Film Festival Screenwriters Tribute

The NFF Screenwriters Tribute is a celebration of a noted screenwriter. This event is hosted by Brian Williams, NFF Board member and NBC News anchor. Past honorees include: David O. Russell, Nancy Meyers, Walter Bernstein, Charlie Kaufman, Ring Lardner Jr., Steve Martin, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Jay Presson Allen, James Schamus, Paul Schrader, Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor, Judd Apatow, Harold Ramis, Barry Levinson, Michael Arndt and Davis Guggenheim.[2]

The All-Star Comedy Roundtable

This event, hosted by Ben Stiller, is a moderated conversation event featuring comedians. Past participants include: Mike Myers, Michael Ian Black, Bill Hader, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Seth Meyers, Jerry Seinfeld, Aziz Ansari, Colin Quinn, Brian Williams, Sarah Silverman, Andy Samberg, Zach Galifianakis, Chris Matthews, Harold Ramis, Peter Farrelly, and John Hamburg.[3]

Late Night Storytelling

In this event Festival attendees tell a five-minute story, based on a chosen theme. Writers, actors, filmmakers or Nantucketers, tell their tales without the benefit of notes or scripts. Past storytellers include; Jim Carrey, Jerry Stiller, Tina Fey, Laird Hamilton, Jesse L Martin, Brian Williams, Joe Pantoliano, Alan Cumming, Mos Def, Olympia Dukakis, Ted Hope, Paul Rudd, Celia Weston, John Shea, Kristen Johnston, Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly, Anne Meara, Rosie Perez, and Ben Stiller.[4]

Nantucket Film Festival Awards

The NFF Official Juries announced in May and the NFF Official Awards are presented to recipients on the last day of the festival in June. The NFF Showtime Tony Cox Screenplay competitions award prizes to Feature Screenplay, Short Screenplay, and TV Pilots.[5]

The Screenwriters Colony

The Screenwriters Colony is a month long, all-expenses-paid event on the island of Nantucket. Writers are invited to work on their screenplay projects with guidance from more experienced people. Participating writers live together at Almanack Farm, on the edge of Nantucket's cranberry bog conservation land.[6]

Year-Round

The Festival's parent organization, the Nantucket Film Foundation, features off-season screening with the Nantucket Dreamland Foundation including NFF Now and the Summer Film Screenings. The NFF Teen View program is a filmmaking workshop series and intensive course free to Nantucket teenagers.[7]

Board of Directors

The Festival's board of directors includes founders Jill and Jonathan Burkhart, as well as the screenwriter and producer Donick Cary, Mark Greenberg, the CEO of Studio 3 Partners, the parent company of the premium entertainment cable channel EPIX, businessmen Ted Leonsis and Tom Scott, NBC hosts Chris Matthews and Brian Williams, and actor Ben Stiller.
