Nicholas Arthur Frayling, born 29 February 1944 in South London, United Kingdom was the Dean of Chichester between September 2002 and February 2014.[1][2] Educated at the University of Exeter and Cuddesdon College, Frayling has lectured on inter-faith and political reconciliation. Before his appointment as Dean of Chichester he was Canon Precentor of Liverpool Cathedral.[3][4][5]

In July 2013, Frayling held a public talk at Chichester Cathedral on the issue of equal marriage, as part of the annual Chichester Festivities. He expressed his view on homosexuality as "not a choice, but a given"[6] - a view which is contrary to that of the Anglican Church.

Nicholas Frayling is a former trustee of the Institute for Food, Brain and Behaviour[7] and a former Chairman of its predecessor organisation Natural Justice.

A 2012 portrait of Frayling, one of 12 heads of Contributors to British Sculpture[8] was exhibited at Yorkshire Sculpture Park[9] in 2013.

It was announced in September 2013 that Dean Frayling would retire from active ministry. He subsequently retired on 28 February 2014 and has been granted the Freedom of the City of Chichester.[10][11]

Frayling is currently Dean of the Priory of England and the Islands of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.
