Nicholas Kay (born 3 August 1992) is an Australian basketball player for the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL). He is also a member of the Australian national team.
Contents
College career
Kay played college basketball in the United States for the Metropolitan State University of Denver from 2011 to 2015. Teaming up with countryman Mitch McCarron, Kay helped lead the Roadrunners to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments and a national runner-up finish in 2013.[1] Kay was twice named first-team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and in 2014 was Most Valuable Player of the RMAC Tournament.
Professional career
Following the close of his college career, Kay returned to Australia to play for the Townsville Crocodiles of the NBL. In his rookie season, he averaged 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and was named NBL Rookie of the Year. At the close of the 2015–16 season, the Crocodiles withdrew from the NBL and Kay was signed by the Illawarra Hawks.[2]
Kay has also played for the Southland Sharks of the New Zealand National Basketball League since 2016.[3]
International career
After playing for Australia's youth teams previously, Kay was named to the Australian national team for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.[4][5]
