The Niederelbe (i.e. Lower Elbe) is the naming for the river Elbe from the Mühlenberger Loch (a bay of the Elbe at kilometre 634 in Hamburg) downstream to its mouth. Starting at the Mühlenberger Loch the Niederelbe is in Hamburg, more downstream it forms the border between Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. The Niederelbe forms part of the Elbe section named the Unterelbe, comprising all that part of the Elbe influenced by the tides, starting at the sluice in Geesthacht (at kilometre 586).
