Norman May

Norman 'Nugget' Alfred Vale May AM[1][2] (born 1928) is an Australian radio and television sports broadcaster famous in Australia for calling "GOLD, GOLD for Australia, GOLD" during the men's 4 x 100 medley final in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.[3] His career in sports broadcasting began in the 1950s and extended well past his official retirement from the ABC in 1984.[4][5] May received a Medal of the Order of Australia in 1983 and an Australian Sports Medal in 2000.[1][6] Also in 2000, he was awarded an Olympic Order, and in 2003 he received an Australian Sports Commission Lifetime Achievement Award.[7] May was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2004 and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia on 26 January 2009.[2][7]
