North Pembrokeshire and Fishguard Railway

The North Pembrokeshire and Fishguard Railway was a British railway company operating in Wales in the late 19th century.

History

Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway

The company started off as the Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway which was opened between Narberth Road (Clynderwen) and Rosebush, north of Maenclochog, on 19 September 1876.

Rosebush and Fishguard Railway

In 1881, the Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway was purchased by the Rosebush and Fishguard Railway, which had at that time no line of its own.

Closure and reopening

The whole undertaking was closed on 31 December 1882 and the name changed to the North Pembrokeshire and Fishguard Railway in 1884, but it was not re-opened until 11 April 1895 after reconditioning and the addition of an extension from Rosebush to Letterston. The Great Western Railway assumed control in February 1898.

Final closure

The line was closed to passengers on 25 October 1937 (allowing construction of the Trecwn Royal Naval Armaments Depot on the resultant spur line) and to freight between Clynderwen and Letterston in May 1949.
