Oakland is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Oakland in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,758 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.7 square miles (14.7 km²), of which, 5.4 square miles (14.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (5.27%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,758 people, 1,149 households, and 728 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 511.4 people per square mile (197.6/km²). There were 1,318 housing units at an average density of 244.4/sq mi (94.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.15% White, 0.25% Black or African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.07% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population.

There were 1,149 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $32,700, and the median income for a family was $40,292. Males had a median income of $33,281 versus $25,326 for females.
