Oakley Green is a village in Berkshire, England. Its toponym is derived from "Oak Clearing," and a green used by farmers from the nearby parish of Bray.
History
The area is the purported site of the battle of Acleah, in 851 AD, between King Æthelwulf of Wessex and the Danes, resulting in a victory for Æthelwulf. It grew as a small village linking the route between Windsor and Reading, serving as a stop for packhorse traders.
Manor Houses
There are a number of manor houses in the area,[dubious ] the largest being New Lodge, built in 1857 for Sylvain van de Weyer, a Belgian minister. Other notable houses include Kimber's Farm and Bishop's Farm.
