Overview

Parkroyal Hotels & Resorts is a hotel chain owned and managed by Pan Pacific Hotels Group,[1] a subsidiary of UOL Group Limited. It is a collection of 13 hotels, resorts, and serviced suites in gateway cities across Australia and Asia, with several other hotels under development. It is headquartered in Singapore.

History

The Parkroyal brand was born when the first Parkroyal hotel was built on Royal Parade in Melbourne, Australia in 1962 and named after the Royal Park opposite it.

In 1989, Parkroyal Floating Hotel debuted in Ho Chi Minh City as the first international standard hotel in Vietnam. With 186 rooms, it was built by Bethlehem Shipyard in Singapore and anchored in Queensland, Australia in 1987. The hotel was later towed across the Great Barrier Reef to the Saigon River in Vietnam and operated there until 1997. Parkroyal Saigon returned to Vietnam in January 2008 and this time as the first atrium style hotel.

In 2002, Hotel Plaza Limited, a subsidiary of UOL Group Limited, purchased the rights to the Parkroyal brand name in Southeast and North Asia. Over the next three years, Hotel Plaza Limited renamed all its hotels in Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam to Parkroyal, to form a portfolio of seven properties in five cities.

In 2009, Hotel Plaza Limited is renamed to Pan Pacific Hotels Group. The Parkroyal Hotels & Resorts and Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts brands were integrated under the Group.

In 2010, the rights to the Parkroyal brand name in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific were acquired by Pan Pacific Hotels Group. Parkroyal Darling Harbour, Sydney and Parkroyal Parramatta were rebranded from the Crowne Plaza brand, marking Parkroyal's return to Australia after nine years. The next year, Pan Pacific Hotels Group acquired Hilton Melbourne Airport and rebranded it to Parkroyal Melbourne Airport.

In 2013, Parkroyal on Pickering, the Group's first sustainable hotel-in-a-garden concept, is launched in Singapore. A year later, Parkroyal Nay Pyi Taw debuted in Myanmar as the first international hotel in its capital.
