Paul Doswell

Paul Doswell has been the manager of Sutton United FC since May 2008.[1] Under his management,[2] Sutton United were promoted from the Ryman League Premier Division to the Conference South at the end of the 2010-11 season and from that division (now renamed National League South) to the Vanarama National League at the end of the 2015-16 season.[3]
Before managing at Sutton, in 2008 Doswell was manager of Eastleigh F.C., where his tenure beginning in 2002 saw him take the Hampshire club from the Wessex League to the Football Conference South. Roswell earned the BBC South Sports Award in 2006.[4] In 2007, Doswell became assistant manager to former Leeds United player Ian Baird and in May 2008, Sutton United announced they had secured Doswell's services to replace caretaker manager Jimmy Dack.[citation needed]
Arriving at Gander Green Lane, Doswell announced he would be bringing in several Eastleigh players, including Karl Murray. Doswell also made use of his London connections to bring in Steve Watts, amongst others. In his first season, 2008/9, Doswell guided the team to fifth place in the Ryman League but they were beaten 3-0 by runners-up Staines Town in the play-offs.[citation needed]
In 2010/11, Doswell took the U's to fourth place but they were beaten in the 2-leg play-off semi-finals by Welling United. In 2011/12 they just missed out on the play-offs, finishing sixth, and in 2012/13 they but finished second behind the Hampshire club. In the play-offs, the first tie ended 1-1 before the Kent team won the second leg 3-0.[citation needed]
Peter Beadle started the 2014/15 season as assistant manager but was eventually replaced by Doswell's Eastleigh colleague Ian Baird. The U's finished in 15th place.[5]
After a slow start in the 2015/16, a run of 26 unbeaten games, including ten wins from their last eleven games, led to the U's win the Vanarama National League South title.[6]
Personal life
Doswell was born in Southampton, Hampshire, England on 17 February 1966. He supports his boyhood club, Southampton F.C.; he also supports Sutton.[7]
Doswell is co-owner of south coast property development firm Drew Smith Homes, and its subsidiary Doswell Projects.[8] His brother Andrew is chairman.[9]
