Background for 2004

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation released the news that Mr. Pemba Dorje Sherpa (27 yrs), a High Altitude Sherpa of "Dream Everest Expedition 2004" from Gaurishankar - 1, Dolakha, Nepal has been successful to summit Mt. Sagarmatha (Everest), the highest (8848 m.) peak of the World, by setting a new world record of fastest climbing. He completed the distance from Sagarmatha Base Camp to the summit in 8 hours and 10 minutes by starting at 6 P.M. on 20 May 2004 and reaching the summit at 02.10 A.M. on 21 May 2004.

The previous world record was 10 hours 56 minutes and 46 seconds set by Mr. Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa (36 yrs) Climbing Sirdar from Solukhumbu on 25 May 2003.
