The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross is a personal ordinariate of the Roman Catholic Church within the territory of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference for groups of Anglicans who desire full communion with the Catholic Church in Australia and Asia.[3] As a personal ordinariate it is immediately subject to the Holy See in Rome.[2]
History
The ordinariate was established on 15 June 2012, in accordance with the apostolic constitution Anglicanorum coetibus of Pope Benedict XVI.[3] The first ordinary is the Reverend Monsignor Harry Entwistle PA.[2] The Church of St Ninian and St Chad in Perth (formerly owned by the Anglican Catholic Church in Australia) was named as the principal church.[2]
Communities
Since its inception, the ordinariate has grown to include ten Australian congregations in Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and New South Wales.[4] In February 2015, a congregation of the Traditional Anglican Church of Japan was received as the Ordinariate Community of St Augustine of Canterbury, the first ordinariate community in Asia.[5]
