Milton Peter ("Pete") Nielsen (born March 15, 1938 in Burley, Idaho)[1] is a Republican Idaho State Representative since 2002 representing District 22 in the B seat.[2]

Education

Nielsen graduated from Minico High School and attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University.

Elections

  • 2012 Redistricted to 23B, Nielsen won the three-way May 15, 2012, Republican primary with 2,225 votes (45.7%), facing Democratic nominee Pam Chiarella[3] for the general election on November 6, 2012.
  • 1990 Nielsen lost the November 6, 1990, general election for senate seat 12A to Democratic Senator Rose Claire Wetherell, who served in the senate until 1996.
  • 1996 When Democratic Senator Wetherell left the District 20 senate seat open, Nielsen lost the May 28, 1996, Republican primary to Representative Robbi L. King.[4]
  • 1998 Nielsen challenged King in the three-way May 26, 1998, Republican primary, but placed second;[5] King served in the senate until 2002.
  • 2002 When Republican Representative Douglas R. Jones was re-districted to 23B, Nielsen won the May 28, 2002, Republican primary with 1,574 votes (60.1%) against Tish O'Donnell-Bangeman,[6] winning the November 5, 2002, general election with 4,124 votes against David Phillips (D).[7]
  • 2004 Unopposed for the May 25, 2004, Republican primary, Nielsen won with 2,129 votes; Bob Stevenson won the Democratic primary,[8] but was replaced on the ballot for the general election by Wayne Lasuen. Nielsen won the November 2, 2004, general election with 6,057 votes (55.0%) against Lasuen.[9]
  • 2006 Unopposed for the May 23, 2006, Republican primary, Nielsen won with 2,303 votes,[10] winning the November 7, 2006, general election with 4,667 votes (56.20%) against Dawn Best (D).[11]
  • 2008 Unopposed for the May 27, 2008, Republican primary, Nielsen won with 2,406 votes,[12] winning the November 4, 2008, general election with 7,310 votes (63.9%) against Rosemary Ardinger (D).[13]
  • 2010 Unopposed for the May 25, 2010, Republican primary, Nielsen won with 3,213 votes,[14] and was unopposed for the November 2, 2010, general election, winning with 6,550 votes.[15]

Views

On February 25, 2016, Nielsen claimed that women who are raped or victims of incest are less likely to become pregnant, due to "trauma". "Being a father of five girls, I've explored this a lot."[16]
