Availability

PlayStation Vue is available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles, iPad, iPhone, Amazon Fire TV and Google Chromecast.[1]

The service was rolled out in 2015 to residents in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia and San Francisco.[2]

PlayStation Vue was launched nationwide on March 14, 2016. Sony introduced Vue into 203 new markets. With the exception of the Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco markets, access to live broadcast programming is limited to video on demand through ABC, FOX and NBC. Sony plans to add live and VOD programming for CBS in the future.[3]

Content

Sony has announced agreements with many major content producers, including ABC, CBS, Disney, ESPN, Fox and NBC.[1]

PlayStation Vue features three packages:[4][5]

  • Access Slim ($30/mo) - Featuring over 55 channels, including movies and sports.
  • Core Slim ($35/mo) - Featuring over 70 channels, with additional national and regional sports channels.
  • Elite Slim ($45/mo) - Featuring over 100 channels, with more movie and entertainment channels

Packages are billed on a monthly basis and are allowed to be canceled at any time. No contract is required and a free one-week trial is offered to any who would normally be able to access the service who have not previously redeemed a trial. The monthly rate is charged to the viewer's credit card if the service is not canceled before the end of the trial period.[6]

Cloud storage

According to TechHive writer Jared Newman, it's not a problem if your favorite shows air simultaneously because instead of a traditional digital video recorder, "PlayStation Vue stores shows in the cloud, so they're available on all devices without scheduling conflicts. And unlike cable, there are no hidden fees, equipment rental costs, or installation charges."[7]
