A. R. Rahman (Allah-Rakha Rahman born as A. S. Dileep Kumar on 6 January 1967) is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist. Rahman's works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements. He has won dozens of awards and nominations. He has received sixteen Filmfare Awards, thirteen Filmfare Awards South, eleven International Indian Film Academy Awards and many more. In total, he has won 125 awards and was nominated for 138 awards. By making a record in the Indian music industry, he has won great admiration not only all over India, but also in some parts of the world. With an in-house studio (Panchathan Record Inn in Chennai) Rahman's film-scoring career began during the early 1990s with the Tamil film Roja. In a notable two-decade career, he has been acclaimed for redefining contemporary Indian film music and contributing to the success of several films. Rahman has become a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising money for a number of causes and charities. Rahman began his early musical training under Master Dhanraj, and at age 11 began playing in the orchestra of Malayalam composer (and close friend of his father) M. K. Arjunan. He soon began working with other composers, such as M. S. Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, Ramesh Naidu and Raj-Koti, accompanied Zakir Hussain, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and L. Shankar on world tours and obtained a scholarship from Trinity College London to the Trinity College of Music. He converted to Islam (his mother's religion) with other members of his family in 1989 at the age of 23, changing his name from R.S. Dileep Kumar to Allah Rakha Rahman (A.R. Rahman). A. R. The album was released on 20 December 2010 and is regarded as the greatest hits album by A. R. Rahman. The album has the maximum length of 87:31. The genres of the album include Bollywood, Filmi, Pop. It contains some of the evergreen hit tracks composed by Rahman from various Bollywood films. Released under the label of Venus Worldwide Entertainment, it consists of fifteen tracks. After the success of the album, it was listed among the list of Amazon Best Sellers Rank. The album has sold many copies worldwide.
"Jai Ho" is a song written by Tanvi Shah and sung by A. R. Rahman for the 2008 film, Slumdog Millionaire. The song was recorded in Panchathan Record Inn and AM Studios in Chennai, India. The song was, at the time of its release "the toast of the town in almost every part of the world". Covers and remixes of the song and performances of the "Jai Ho" dance were posted on YouTube. "Jai Ho" received universally favorable reviews from music critics, who cited it as the best song on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. It was also the official campaign song of the Indian National Congress during the 2009 election. Mani Ratnam-directed films featuring A. R. Their partnership is widely regarded as having produced some of the best film music in Indian cinema from the 1990s till present.
