Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, AVSM, VSM is the 25th General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Indian Army's Eastern Command.[4] Prior to this appointment, Bakshi was chief of staff of the Northern Command at Udhampur.[5] He succeeded Lt Gen MMS Rai who is elevated as the Vice Chief of Army Staff in the Army Headquarters in New Delhi. Bakshi is tipped to succeed General Dalbir Singh as next Army Chief when he retires in January 2017.[3]

He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy.[4]
Career
He was commissioned into Skinner's Horse regiment and has rich operational and command experience. Several other important positions held by him include the command of an armoured brigade in the Western sector, a division in the deserts, and a corps in the plains sector of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. He also commanded IX Corps[3] and was the chief of staff of the Northern Command at Udhampur.[5]
