Early life

Princess Maria Carolina was born on 23 June 2003 in Rome, Italy. She is the first member of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies to be born on Italian soil in more than 150 years.

Princess Maria Carolina was baptized at the Palatine Chapel of the Royal Palace of Caserta. Her godparents are Prince Laurent of Belgium, Prince Pierre d'Arenberg, Anna Maria Pisanu (wife of the Italian Home Secretary Giuseppe Pisanu) and Ines Sastre (an actress). She was named after Queen Maria Carolina of Naples and Sicily; who was the wife of King Ferdinand IV and daughter of the Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa and of Francis I of Lorraine. Chantal is for the Princess's Chantal de Chevron-Villette and Edoarda for her maternal grandmother. Beatrice is after her Princess Béatrice of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, whilst Januaria is in honour of San Gennaro, the Patron Saint of Naples.

Princess Maria Carolina has a younger sister, Princess Maria Chiara, who was born in 2005. Both Princess Maria Carolina and Princess Maria Chiara live with their parents in Monaco.

Public appearances

Princess Maria Carolina and her sister attended the baptism of Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine of Denmark in 2011. Their father, Carlo, is one of six godparents to Princess Josephine.

Princess Maria Carolina attended a Planet Solar Ship Return Ceremony, which took place in Monaco on 25 May 2012. Princess Maria Chiara also attended.[1] To celebrate Princess Maria Carolina's ninth birthday, the family went to Capri and then to a former Bourbon palace in Italy.

In January 2014, she and her sister Princess Maria Chiara, along with their parents attended the beatification ceremony of Queen Maria Christina, which took place at Basilica of Santa Chiara in Naples, Italy. [2] In May 2014, Princesses Maria Carolina and Maria Chiara attended the First Holy Communion of Princes Nicolas and Aymeric of Belgium, which took place in Bonlez, Belgium. [3]

Princess Maria Carolina and her sister Princess Maria Chiara have been supporting the project "Passion Sea" since November 2015. [4]
