Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. During the afternoon of May 26, 2014 a small box of crosses was set ablaze in the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem. Witnesses believe this to have been an arson attempt.[1] At the same time Pope Francis was conducting a ceremony in the building next door in the upper room of King David's Tomb.

Later that same day during the night the cave beneath the Church of the Nativity caught fire and sustained considerable damage. The Pope had visited the cave that very day.[2]

It has been conjectured that the two events may have been related as forms of protest against the Pope's visit to Israel. No suspects have yet been apprehended or arrested.
