Origin

The Raijada or Raizada are the descendants of the ruler of Junagadh, a kingdom in the Saurashtra peninsula. Junagadh was ruled by the Chudasama Rajputs, who were a branch of the Lunar or Chandravanshi line and traced their origin to Krishna. The crown princes of this kingdom was addressed as the Ra (for example, Ra Navghan) until they ascended the throne.

Junagadh was invaded by the Mughals in the early 17th century, which ended Rajput rule there. The disinherited Ra was given the jagir of Vanthali and retitled by the Mughals as the Ra-Zada, meaning the son of Ra in Urdu.
