Robert Knox Ross (British Army officer)

Major-General Robert 'Bobby' Knox Ross CB DSO MC (23 August 1893 – 3 November 1951) was a senior British Army officer who fought in both World War I and World War II, where he commanded the 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division throughout the campaign in North-western Europe from late June 1944 until the end of the war in Europe in May 1945.

Military career

Ross was born 23 August 1893 and was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He joined the British Army and was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) in February 1913.
