Rock Ethos Launched in 2008, is an annual rock music festival which aims to promote anti-piracy. The festival’s mission also revolves around encouraging bands to present original songs instead of cover versions. Indian rock bands are allocated 45 minutes to perform their original compositions at the festival. In an attempt to recreate an international rock festival experience, Rock Ethos offers a carnival atmosphere with bungee jumping, paintball contests, and food and refreshment zones serving as added attractions.

Rock Ethos 2008

Venue: Palace Grounds, Bangalore
Date: Sunday, 10 February 2008
Time: 11am to 10pm
The day-long, entry-free rock carnival had India’s 13 biggest rock bands performing back-to-back for 45 minutes each. The three-dimensional stage had two huge 14 feet guitars and two kick drums with a diameter of eight feet as stage backdrop. The bands did their tuning in the green room from where they could directly step up to the main stage and start playing instead of doing the tuning on the main stage and annoying the audience. There were well-established old metal heads such as Mother Jane to the relatively new, nevertheless talented bands, including Inviktus. Dispelling all myths about low-energy levels in original Indian Metal compositions, college bands such as Illuminati displayed remarkable screen presence and technical expertise. While Bhoomi lived up to all expectations with old-school metal numbers “Uncultured” and “Dead Time Stories”; Mother Jane, the closing act, delivered a tight performance with some fantastic classical stunts woven into the lead guitar pieces, thereby performing the perfect swan song to a memorable evening. Almost all performers lauded the fact that Rock Ethos was the first to ever encourage them to play their original compositions.

Rock Ethos 2009

Venue: Palace Grounds, Bangalore
Date: 14 & 15 March 2009
Time: 11am to 10pm
Rock Ethos, the first ever Indian metal fest featured original rock music of Bangalore has been unanimously hailed as 'one day indigenous India's Woodstock'. Descending on delirious rock fans in all its electrifying impact, it stirred up India’s rock scene into a blaze of frenzy that left the city asking for more.

Venturing into unexplored territory of showcasing exclusively original rock music, the event proved to be a smash hit as proved by the huge crowd that thronged Palace Grounds for the 10-hour Indian rock cornucopia.

Rock Ethos ’09 keeps the spirit of rock flying high with a two-day festival replete with double the number of rock bands. Stage effects, lighting and sound will reach for hitherto un-scaled heights, in keeping with the promise of creating a memorable impact each consecutive season. In no way subjacent to an international rock fest, Rock Ethos 09 ushers in an energetic mood, refreshing spirits jaded with negativism of recent times.
