The Diocese of České Budějovice (Latin: Dioecesis Budovicensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese. It is situated almost entirely in Bohemia, with only small eastern section in Moravia. The diocese was founded on 20 September 1785, and its area is 12 500 km². Jan Prokop Schaaffgotsche vas first bishop. With the acceptance by Pope Francis of the resignation of Bishop Jiří Paďour, in accord with Canon 401.2 of the Latin-rite Code of Canon Law, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, the Diocese became a vacant see (sede vacante). On March 19, 2015 Reverend Vlastimil Kročil was appointed as bishop of České Budějovice.[1]
