Said Ramadan

Said Ramadan (Arabic: سعيد رمضان‎‎; born April 12, 1926 in Shibin Al Kawm, Al Minufiyah, died August 4, 1995 in Geneva) was an Egyptian religious scholar and activist, and a major figure in the Muslim Brotherhood. He was the son-in-law of Hassan al-Banna, the Muslim Brotherhood's founder. After being expelled from Egypt by Gamal Abdul Nasser for his activities, Said Ramadan moved to Saudi Arabia where he was one of the original members of the constituent council of the Muslim World League, a charity and missionary group. He then moved to Geneva, Switzerland, before finishing a dissertation at the University of Cologne in 1959. In 1961 he founded the Islamic Center in Geneva, a combination mosque, think tank, and community center. His son Hani Ramadan now runs that center. Another son, Tariq Ramadan is prominent in international Islamic affairs and academics.

Said Ramadan's US connections included Muslim leader Malcolm X.
