Location of Salmon Lake State Park in Montana

Salmon Lake State Park is a state park of Montana, United States, in the Clearwater River chain, situated between the Mission and Swan mountain ranges.[2] There is a boat launch ramp and 21 family camping sites.[3] The Champion Timberlands Corporation originally gifted the park to commemorate three foresters who died in a 1976 plane crash.[4] The park, along with nearby Placid Lake State Park, had the highest visitation of state parks in the Missoula area in 2012, with 45,000 individuals visiting each park.[5] The lake and the connected waterways hold many species of fish including rainbow, cutthroat, brown, brook and bull trout, largemouth bass, white mountain whitefish, kokanee salmon, yellow perch and northern pike. Birds that may be spotted here include red-necked grebes, great blue herons, bald eagles, water fowl, osprey and common loons. The lake is surrounded by largely woodland mountains, with ponderosa pine, western larch, and douglas fir being the dominant tree species.[6]
