Sarsod pronunciation: Listeni//(Hindi: ‍सरसौद, (सरसौद, सरसौन्द)is located in Barwala tehsil of Hisar (district) district in Haryana. It is situated 21 km from Hisar city on National Highway 65 (India) which leads to Chandigarh. Sarsod is just 3 km away from Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Station. Barwala Tehsil is just 9 km away from Sarsod on National Highway 65 (India). Sarsod is a famous village around the Tehsil Barwala. Sarsod is a developing village. It has facilities like electricity, water, and education. West of Sarsod is desert land and rest of the area around the village is fertile plain land. Sarsod has six large ponds (Johad).

Origin

According to H.A. Rose[1] Certain villages in Hisar derive their names from a tradition that a giant was killed and each of his limbs gave a name to the place where it fell, e.g. : — Sarsud = where the giant's sar (head) fall[4]

According to the 2011 census of India, Sarsod has a population of 4630 with 2460 males and 2160 females.

Being a Hindu village, Sarsod have good no of old Hindu temple. In Sarsod Bala Ji Mandir, Shiv Ji Mandir commonly called (Shivalaya=Shiv Ji Ka ghar).

Over 99% of the population belongs to Hinduism, bulk of remaining 1% belong to Islam. The important social groups in the district are Jats, Lohar, Bishnois, Brahmins, Sainis, Banias, Kumhar, Chamar and Balmiki.

Agriculture

Despite recent industrial development, Haryana is primarily an agricultural state as a result of this 95% of Sarsod population is dependent on agriculture. Wheat, Mustard, Cotton are the major crops. The main crops of Sarsod are wheat, cotton, oilseeds, pulses, barley, maize, and millets. There are two main types of crops in Sarsod: Rabi and Kharif. The major Kharif crops of Haryana are jowar, bajra, maize, cotton and sesame. The major Rabi crops are wheat, pulses, linseed, rapeseed and mustard. About 86% of the area is arable, and of that 96% is cultivated. About 75% of the area is irrigated, through tube wells and an extensive system of canals. Dairy farming is also an essential part of the Sarsod rural economy. Sarsod has a livestock population of 2000. Milk and milk products form an essential part of the local diet. There is the saying Desaan main des Haryana, jit doodh dahi ka khaana, which means "Best among all the countries in the world is Haryana, where the staple food is milk and yoghurt". The Murrah breed of water buffalo from Haryana is world-famous for its milk production.

In the village both Private school and Government Schools are there. Sarsod having 3 Government schools and 3 Private school. Modern Sunrise School[5] is one of the popular Private school in Barwala area. Government school for girls and boys are separate. Government school provide facilities up to 12th class.[6]

Banks

Exclusive Branch of Punjab National Bank is situated at Sarsod. Bank is also serving all the neighbouring villages also[7]
