Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. In 2002, Scratch Music Group's CEO, Rob Principe partnered with Jam Master Jay of Run DMC to establish the Scratch DJ Academy.
With the goal of lowering the barrier of entry to the art form of the DJ, Scratch’s first semester received media attention worldwide with instructors including Jam Master Jay, DJ Premier, A-Trak, Evil Dee, and many more. Scratch DJ Academy went on to sell out every semester during its first year and eventually moved to a permanent location in the East Village (where it is located today).
Over the next few years, Scratch opened additional locations in Los Angeles (2004) and Miami (2005), and expanded its course offering to include music production. Today, Scratch teaches over 50,000 people how to DJ annually through its physical locations and national tours. Scratch has taught students from all 50 states, 35 different countries, and is widely recognized as the world leader in DJ and music production education.
Academics
Scratch DJ Academy offers packaged programs in DJ Certification and Music Certification. Scratch DJ Academy's DJ Certification Program is a comprehensive method for developing world-class DJ skills through the completion of four required courses and two electives. The Music Production Certification Program you will gain a solid understanding of Ableton’s foundational elements including sampling, synthesis, sequencing, sound design, basic mixing/mastering techniques and more! Scratch DJ Academy also offers a individual courses that cover every skill level from beginner to advanced and area of interest. Scratch DJ Academy also offers workshops, private lessons and open houses.
Scratch DJ Academy Campuses and Instructors
Scratch DJ Academy has five locations, New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and Atlanta. The school also works with celebrity Alumni Faculty who give instruction at special classes throughout the year. Notable faculty members who have taught in the past include: Grandwizzard Theodore (inventor of Scratching), Rob Swift (Original member of the X-Ecutioners), Immortal (Director and Head Instructor), Grandmaster Flash, Z-Trip, A-Trak, Kool Herc, Jazzy Joyce, Grandmaster Caz, I.Emerge, Evil Dee, Mista Sinista (Co-founder of the X-Ecutioners), Samantha Ronson, Cosmo Baker, and Total Eclipse (Original member of the X-Ecutioners)
