Screaming Tea Party were a cult psychedelic/punk band from London, England.[1] The band original lineup consisted of Koichi Yamanoha (Bass Guitar/Vocals), Teta Colamonaco (Drums/Vocals) and Niiyan (Guitar). The band's debut EP Death Egg was released through Stolen Recordings on 9 July 2007 in the United Kingdom. Critics have identified noise pop and psychedelic rock elements in their sound. In September 2008, STP released their second EP Golden Blue in with a new drummer Nell Eu In October 2008, they released "Death Egg/Golden Blue" (a Japan-only release comprising their first two EPs on one disc). They were also featured in the "Blinded by the Light" episode of the TV series FM, playing the songs "Today is the Day" and "Death Egg".[2] The band disbanded after playing the Offset Festival in Essex in October 2010.

Touring

Screaming Tea Party toured with The Go! Team,[3] and Let's Wrestle in January 2008. Additionally, they have played multiple music festivals around the world, including The Great Escape Festival, End of the Road Festival in Wiltshire, South by Southwest in Austin,[4] Offset Festival in Essex[5] and 1234 Festival in London.[6]

Critical reception

"Rough Trade Records" described the band thusly: "They switch continually between scribbling punkabilly and utterly stripped-down lo-fi, with magical results."[7] Drowned in Sound said: "Complex in their simplicity and a nexus of electricity reminiscent of Sonic Youth having sex with a bulldozer."[8]

Current projects

After a brief stint as a touring guitarist with The Go! Team and playing bass in The Proper Ornaments,[9] Yamanoha started Grimm Grimm, a solo psych-folk project. The project has a shifting line-up that has included and includes members of Le Volume Courbe, Serafina Steer and Bo Ningen.[10] Niiyan currently plays in the noise pop duo Umez, based in Tokyo, Japan,[10] and Colamonaco performs solo material under the name Teta Mona. In 2012, she toured UK and Ireland with Dylan Carlson of Earth (American band) after the release of "La Strega and the Cunning Man in the Smoke" for the unique Latitude Series, by Southern Records.[11] She is currently based in her native Italy.[10]
