Seth Anandram Jaipuria College (Bengali: শেঠ আনন্দরাম জয়পুরিয়া কলেজ)[1] is an undergraduate degree college affiliated to University of Calcutta that runs three shifts.It was established in 1945 by the Seth Anandram Jaipuria Trust at 10, Raja Nabakrishna Street in north Kolkata. The college is popularly known as only Jaipuria College.

History

Seth Anandram Jaipuria College was founded by Sri Mangturam Jaipuria in memory of his illustrious father. It is housed in the famous Sovabazar Rajbari, a landmark in the cultural history of the city of Kolkata. The College, since its inception, has been associated with many eminent personalities who were involved in the Indian Nationalist Movement. One of them, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, inaugurated the College on December 22, 1945.

In memory of the illustrious founder of the College, Late Seth Mangturam Jaipuria, the Trust and the Governing Body of the College award Gold Medals annually to the successful students who secure highest marks in the three disciplines of Arts, Science and Commerce in the University Examinations.

Courses and departments

The college offers B.Com., B.Sc. and B.A. degrees for undergraduates. The college runs in three shifts catering to the Girls' Section (Morning), Co-ed. Section (Day) and Boys' Section (Evening). The college has around 6000 students, 180 teachers and about 100 support staff. There are 22 Honours courses spread over the three shifts; 8 Honours subjects are taught in the Morning shift, 12 in the Day shift and 2 in the Evening shift. Of these, Bengali, Hindi, English and Political Science Honours are common to both Morning & Day shifts. Accounting & Finance Honours are common to all the three shifts.
