Severfield plc is the largest structural steel specialist in the UK. The company’s major works include The Shard, the Olympic Stadium, and the Tate Modern. Severfield plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (SFR).

History

The company was founded in 1978 as a partnership named Severfield-Reeve. John Severs, the Managing Director for many years, left in June 2007. Severfield plc is now run by a board of directors with Ian Lawson as the Chief Executive Officer.

Severfield plc has developed over four decades through acquisition.

In 1996, Severfield plc took over J N Rowen Ltd of Nottingham. The company consequently changed its name to Severfield-Rowen 1999.

In 2001, the company acquired Watson Steel Structures of Bolton from AMEC. In 2005, the group acquired Atlas Ward Structures Ltd. In 2007, it took over Fisher Engineering Ltd of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.

The company ventured overseas in 2008 and began a joint venture with JSW Building Systems Ltd in India. JSW Severfield Structures Ltd, India, officially opened in 2010.

Through 2012 and 2013, Severfield-Rowen Structures merged with Watson Steel Structures to become Severfield-Watson Structures. In 2014, the company unified the individual company names and rebranded to become Severfield plc.


Public company

In July 1988, Severfield plc was listed in the Unlisted Securities Market (which became the Alternative Investment Market in 1995). The company then moved onto the London Stock Exchange on 8 June 1995. It is currently on the FTSE SmallCap Index.

Severfield plc is headquartered on the former RAF Dalton site near Thirsk, North Yorkshire (UK) The company also has factory sites in Sherburn and Lostock in the UK, Ballinamallard in Northern Ireland and Mumbai in India.
