History

Adventist Health System

Shawnee Mission Health is a member of Adventist Health System. Adventist Health System is a non-profit faith-based health care organization headquartered in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Adventist Health System was founded in 1973 to support and strengthen the Seventh-day Adventist health care organizations.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center became an Adventist Health System affiliate in 2002, joining 44 other hospital campuses with more than 8,000 licensed beds in 10 states.

Building

In 1962, Shawnee Mission Medical Center was a one-story, 65-bed community hospital. Shawnee Mission Health

With the Prairie Star campus in Lenexa, physician offices throughout Johnson and Wyandotte Counties and CorporateCare locations across the metro, Shawnee Mission Medical Center is more than just a hospital campus at I-35 and 75th Street in Merriam. Shawnee Mission Health (SMH) isn’t a big corporate hospital system; it’s a network of health care facilities and providers, working to exceed our patients’ expectations by delivering quality care with compassion.

“Our future is about more than being a hospital,” said Ken Bacon, President and CEO of SMH. “When the community hears Shawnee Mission Health, they should think of a network of health care facilities and providers working to exceed patients’ expectations by delivering quality care with compassion.”
