Life and career

McMahon graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a 2.1 BA Honours in Politics with History and Sociology in 2006. Controversially, McMahon worked as a paid researcher for her serving MSP father, Michael McMahon.[2]

After the Scottish Parliament Election in 2011 Siobhan was elected as a regional list MSP and they became the first father and daughter pair to serve in the Scottish Parliament.[3]

In the leadership elections following Scottish Labour's defeat in the 2011 Scottish Parliament election McMahon supported Johann Lamont.

In the leadership election held following Lamont's resignation, McMahon supported Jim Murphy.

She has also worked for Labour MP Jim Murphy and as part of the Labour Support Unit in the Scottish Parliament.
