Sir John Chichester, 1st Baronet
Sir John Chichester, 1st Baronet, of Raleigh (23 April 1623 - 1667) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1661 to 1667.
Chichester was the son of Sir Robert Chichester, K.B., of Raleigh, Devon and his second wife Mary Hill, daughter of Robert Hill of Shilston, Devon. He succeeded to Raleigh on the death of his father on 24 April 1624. He was created a baronet on 4 August 1641.[1]
In 1661, Chichester was elected Member of Parliament for Barnstaple in the Cavalier Parliament and sat until his death in 1667 at the age of about 44.[2]
Chichester married firstly, Elizabeth Rayney, daughter of Sir John Rayney, Ist Baronet and his first wife Catharine Style, daughter of Thomas Style. She died in 1654 and he married secondly Mary Warcup, widow of St. Anne's, Blackfriars, at that parish on 18 July 1655. He was succeeded successively by his sons John and Arthur.[1]
