The Smeldingi (German: Smeldingen, Polish: Smolińcy) was a northwestern Slavic tribe mentioned in 9th-century sources.[1] They were one of four constituent tribes of the Vistulans, along with the Linones, Bethelici and Morizani.[2] They lived east of the Elbe river. Obotrite prince Thrasco laid waste to their capital, and Frankish prince Charles the Younger unsuccessfully campaigned against the Linones and Smeldingi in 808.
