South Gujarat also known as Deccan Gujarat or Dakshin Gujarat is a region in Indian state of Gujarat. The region is one of the wettest region of India. The region is divided into two parts: 1) Western Part. 2) Eastern Part. The western part is almost coastal and is known as Kantha Vistar means coastal region in Gujarati and The eastern part is also known as Dungar Vistar almost hilly which ranges from 100 to 1000 metres ranges with the highest peak at Saputara in The Dangs District of South Gujarat.

Headquarters and districts

Surat is the largest city in this region as result of which it happens the headquarters of South Gujarat region, which is also second largest city of Gujarat and eight largest city in India. The Districts in this region are Surat district, Navsari district, Dang district, Valsad district, and the newly formed Tapi district. The main cities other than Surat are Navsari, Vyara, Valsad, Bardoli, Vapi, Bilimora, Chikhli, Songadh.

Places of tourism

  • Saputara - is a hill-station only 172 km from Surat is perched in the Sahayadri mountain ranges of South Gujarat and is the only hill-station in Gujarat.
  • Dandi - is a beach famous for salt satyagraha which was held by Mahatama Gandhi during British era is only 45 km from Surat.
