Spoto High School
Spoto High School is a public high school located in Riverview, Hillsborough County, Florida, serving the communities of Progress Village and Clair-Mel. It operates as a part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools system. It opened in August 2006, with the main purpose of the school to relieve overcrowding at Riverview High School also located in Riverview, Florida and East Bay High School in Gibsonton, Florida. It also pulled students from Brandon High School and Bloomingdale High School. The school population for 2008-2009 is 1460 students. The principal is David New.[1]
Demographics
At Spoto High School, 38.84% of the population is Black, 22.80% is Hispanic and 31.14% are White, 0.19% are American Indians and Alaskan Natives, 3.14% are Asians and Pacific Islanders and 3.85% are Multi-Racial students.
The demographics for the 2007 2008 school year are as follows: 29.66% of the population is Black, 39.42% are White, 23.15% are Hispanic, 4.70% are Multi-Racial, 2.82% are Asian/Pacific Islander, and .40% are American Indian/Alaskan Native.
The schools colors are Black, Purple, and Silver. Though they are not yet a well known school, their high performance in sports, such as basketball, baseball, football, and wrestling, has given them opportunities to be on local cable sport news networks.
