St. Andrew's Episcopal School (Mississippi)
St. Andrew's Episcopal School is an independent, coeducational, preparatory day school in Ridgeland, Mississippi serving more than 1,100 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.
Founded in 1947, the school occupies two campuses: the South Campus houses the Lower School (pre-kindergarten through grade 4) in Jackson, and the North Campus houses the Middle School (grades 5-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12) in Ridgeland.
The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), belongs to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), and is affiliated with the Mississippi High School Activities Association.[1] The School also holds ties with St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson.
St. Andrew’s is the only school in Mississippi and one of only 50 schools nationwide to receive a $2 million Malone Family Foundation grant to create scholarships for academically gifted students with financial need.[2]
Background
The school seal contains a navy circular band surrounding a shield of the same color. The school's name and the date 1947 (its founding) are inscribed on the circle. The shield is divided into four sections by a red and white cross in the form of the cross on which Saint Andrew was martyred. The top section contains a white magnolia, the state flower of Mississippi. The left section contains the Episcopal shield. The right section is a lamp. An anchor (sometimes referred to as an "anchor of faith") is in the lower section, representing Saint Andrew's vocation as a fisherman and the school's religious affiliation. The school motto (Inveniemus Viam Aut Faciemus) appears between the outer circle and the shield.
The motto, officially adopted in 1979, is "Inveniemus Viam Aut Faciemus" and translates to "We will find a way or we will make one."[3]
The School’s mission is: “To nurture a diverse community in the Episcopal tradition, fostering spiritual growth, moral responsibility, academic excellence, and artistic and athletic pursuits, while preparing for a life of service to our community and the world.”
The official school colors are blue and white.

- 23% of the Class of 2014 is expected to be named Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
- 19.6% of the Class of 2013 were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Eleven (11) were National Merit Semifinalists. An additional four (4) were National Achievement Semifinalists, and one student was named a National Hispanic Scholar. Two additional students received Letters of Commendation.
- The average ACT score for the Class of 2013 is 28.7. The middle 50% of the scores for this class is 27-31.
- The average SAT score for the Class of 2013 is 1900. The middle 50% of the scores for this class is 1710-2110.
- 36 of 40 of Mississippi’s AP State Scholars are St. Andrew’s graduates.
- In 2012, 119 students in grades 10 through 12 completed 274 AP exams in 26 subjects. Fifty-four of these scored well enough on their exams to be recognized as AP Scholars; that’s 45% of all the students who sat for an exam.
- Each year, the U.S. Department of Education recognizes one academically outstanding young man and one academically outstanding young woman as Presidential Scholars. The male Presidential Scholar for Mississippi in 2013 is a St. Andrew’s senior. In the last six years, five of the Presidential Scholars have been St. Andrew’s seniors.
- In its second year competing in 3A play, St. Andrew's Episcopal School has won the Clarion-Ledger's All Sports Award for that class. This is the 12th year in a row that St. Andrew's has won the title.
- The St. Andrew’s Upper School band has received superior ratings at the State Band Festival for 15 consecutive years.
- St. Andrew’s is the only school in Mississippi and one of only 25 schools nationwide to receive a $2 million Malone Family Foundation grant to create scholarships for academically gifted students with financial need.
- The St. Andrew’s Touchstone Endowment stands at more than $8 million.
- St. Andrew’s is the only school in Mississippi with a Chair of Membership in Emory University’s Barkley Forum for Speech and Debate.
- Worth magazine named St. Andrew's one of the top 100 feeder schools for the Ivy League. St. Andrew’s is the only school in Mississippi to earn this distinction.
