St Andrew's C of E High School is an Anglican voluntary aided school in Central Croydon, Greater London. The school is part of the educational provision of the Diocese of Southwark[2] and the London Borough of Croydon.
Contents
History
The school that would become St Andrew's was founded by the parish priest and congregation of St Andrew's Church in 1857. Named "The Ragged School", its building was erected on the site of the current Church Hall during the 1860s. The school was moved to its current site on Duppas Hill in 1964 to facilitate the building of the Croydon Flyover. The Church and School continue in a healthy relationship on a number of levels.
In 1978 the school converted to be co-educational, and a joint sixth form was established with the only other Anglican secondary school in Croydon, Archbishop Tenison's.
The school achieved specialist status for Music in 2006,[3] and continues to have a strong Music and Drama provision despite the dismantling of the Specialist Schools Programme in 2010.
The joint Sixth Form arrangement with Tenison's came to an end in 2013 when St Andrew's launched its own on-site post-16 provision.[4] The Sixth Form was closed in September 2015 by the new Headteacher Kerry Targett.
The school has changed focus under the leadership of Kerry Targett and now has increased provision for vocational courses and SEN students, especially catering for those with EAL & EBD.

School Crest
The idea of the St Andrew's crest comes from the Scottish national flag showing a shield with the white saltire cross of St Andrew on a blue (specifically heraldic azure) ground. The cross pierces a red five-leafed open coronet. On the under side of the shield is the Latin school motto: per crucem ad coronam.
Sister School
The annual admissions procedure is shared with St Andrew's sister school, Archbishop Tenison's.
School Uniform
Black blazer with School badge woven on pocket. Plain white shirt, with firm collar, short or long sleeve. House colour tie, (or Honours or Prefect if awarded). Plain Black school trousers or, for girls, a grey skirt. Plain black school shoes. V neck sweater in plain burgundy (optional) or, for Year 10 & 11, a black V neck jumper.
Houses
Students joining the school are assigned to one of five Houses. The school operates a vertical pastoral system: students are placed into a tutor group on joining the school and remain in the same group until the end of Year 10, at which point they move to one of five groups specifically designated for Year 11 students in order that they can be given specific guidance in relation to their GCSE examinations. The House system is being discontinued in September 2016 by the new Headteacher.
