Rujevica Stadium (official name: "Stadion HNK Rijeka", English: "HNK Rijeka Stadium") is a stadium in the city of Rijeka.[3][4] The stadium is part of the HNK Rijeka Training Camp, built in 2015, which consists of three additional fields. From August 2015, the stadium serves as a temporary home ground for HNK Rijeka during construction of the new Stadion Kantrida. Once the new Kantrida is built, the stadium will be used by HNK Rijeka Academy as part of the club's training camp.[5]

Construction

The construction of the stadium commenced on 15 September 2014 and was privately funded by the owners of HNK Rijeka.[6] On 28 July 2015, the stadium was issued a licence from the Croatian football authorities. It was officially opened on 2 August 2015 with HNK Rijeka's 3–1 win against NK Lokomotiva. Marin Leovac scored the first goal.[7]

Capacity per sector

Three sectors contribute to the total seating capacity of 6,011:

  • Sector I (east): 2,852
  • Sector Z (west): 2,859
  • Sector J (south): 300 (away supporters' sector)

Future plans

In January 2016, HNK Rijeka President Damir Mišković suggested that the northern stand may be built in the near future in order to increase the capacity of the stadium to 8,000. Additional capacity may be required in order to comply with UEFA regulations which require clubs competing in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League to have a stadium with the minimum capacity of 8,000.[8]
