Sutton High School is a public high school serving students in the ninth through twelfth grades, located in the rural town of Sutton, Massachusetts, USA.

History

The original school building, completed in 1952, has been added to with the last addition being completed around 2000. It is currently undergoing a new building project, in which the entire middle and high school building (with the exception of the Romasco Gymnasium) is being rebuilt. [2]

Extracurricular activities

Sports

The high school's mascots are the Sammies and Suzies, named after a local gun-toting legend. The school has won many division, district and state titles in men's and women's soccer and also has a successful basketball program. They compete in Division 3 of the MIAA and are members of the Dual Valley Conference.[3] The school's teams include track, cross country, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, baseball, basketball, cheerleading, tennis, golf, indoor track, softball and football in collaboration with Douglas High School.

Other activities

Sutton offers a wide variety of non-athletic extracurriculars as well. The SHS Drama Club is well established. Over the years, student productions have consisted of Pride and Prejudice, Our Town, Arsenic and Old Lace,[4] The Curious Savage and The Taming of the Shrew. In 2012, the Drama Club presented You Can't Take It With You. In 2013, they are presenting Agatha Christie's "Witness for the Prosecution".

Other clubs include: Student Council, National Honors Society, Future Teachers,[5] Photography Club, Ceramics Club, Community Service Learning, and Gay-Straight Alliance.

Sutton High also boasts a remarkable band under the direction of Mr. Mark Smith until 2012. The new director is Mr. Justin Falvo. In 2009 and 2011, the band competed in Williamsburg VA and took home superior ratings. The band has also held public performances on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C and in the center of Merchant Square in Jamestown, VA.[6]
