Castle Program

The Castle Program is designed for students (non-special education) who need a different environment in order to succeed. These students are typically students who have a history of poor class and school attendance. They meet in a separate setting with small class sizes and a close-knit team of teachers who focus on "realistic expectations." Participation in this program is voluntary.[6]

Junior Day

Junior Day was inspired by the show, "If you really knew me." Every student at Syosset High School, participates in Junior Day once during their junior year. The purpose of the day is to show students that there is more to the school, their peers, and themselves than what meets the eye. In order to accomplish this, the students participate in different activities throughout the day. Ice breakers are played to warm the students up to each other and then the students and faculty volunteers gather around to listen to the personal stories of the two faculty members who are running the program. Then, students are randomly broken up into groups with one faculty member and each share a personal story that most people don't know about themselves. These stories are shared in confidence with your group. After a lunch break, the students come back together to participate in an activity as a group. The students are supposed to line up on one side of the room and wait for a statement to be read. If the statement is true to them, then the student is supposed to walk to the middle of the room, then return. The purpose of this activity is for students to realize that they are not alone. There are others who are going through the same situation as them. This activity is supposed to encourage students to realize that there is more to someone than what they may have thought previously. This day successfully brings students together and unites them, further developing their relationships with one another and themselves.
