Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj

Sohel Taj is a Bangladeshi politician and former State Minister for Home Affairs. He is the son of Bangladesh's first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmad.

Early life

He was born in Dhaka on January 5, 1970. [1] He obtained Bachelor of Business Administration degree from American University. He holds a masters from Gordon University, United States of America in 2008.

Career

He was elected member of parliament in 2001 with Awami League ticket. He served as a member of Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Sohel Taj was re-elected as Member of Parliament from the same constituency in 2008 and joined Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's cabinet as the State Minister for Home Affairs on Jan 6, 2009.[2][3] During his second term as Member of Parliament, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Only five months into taking of oath as a State Minister, he had resigned on May 31 the same year.

Tanjim had been the State Minister for Home Affairs until last year when he resigned from office. He resigned from Bangladesh's parliament, where he had represented the constituency of Gazipur-4 (Kapasia), on 23 April 2012.[1][4] Media is Bangladesh reported that he resigned over "misbehaviour" from a member of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's family.[5]

Personal life

His father was Tajuddin Ahmad the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh and his mother was Johora Taj, a former of Presidum member of Bangladesh Awami League. His Sister Simeen Hussain Rimi was elected MP from his former constituency in Gazipur.[6] He has two other sisters Sharmin Ahmad Reepi and Mahjabin Ahmad Mimi.[7]
