Tanya Huebner (born 25 August 1978) is an Australian swimmer. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming, placing 4th in the 100m breaststroke SB6. At the 2013 World Dwarf Games she competed in both swimming and athletics, winning gold medals in both sports.[1][2] She has been selected to represent Australia at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.[3]

Personal

Huebner was born on 25 August 1978.[4] She is from Victoria.[5] She has achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism.[6] She is a teacher. In July 2011, she took a leave of absence from her job in order to train full-time for the Paralympics.[7] She is a qualified primary school teacher.[8]

Swimming

Huebner is an S6 classified swimmer.[4][9] She is a member of Melbourne Vicentre Swimming Club.[10]

She started swimming when she was extraordinarily youthful.[11]

In 2008, Huebner competed in Rock2Ramp.[12] That year, she also competed in the Club-to-Club swim from Edithvale Life Saving Club to Aspendale Life Saving Club.[13] In 2010, she woke up at 4:30am daily in order to train.[6][14] She competed in the 2010 International Paralympic Committee swimming world championships.[15] She took up a swimming scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in July 2011.[7] She swum for Bayside at the 2011 Australian Open Championships.[16] She competed in the 2011 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in the 200 meters individual medley SM6 event, where she finished first with a time of 3:31:36.[9] In 2011, she also competed at the Can-Am Championships in California.[17] She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in swimming in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley events.[4][18] The Games were her first.[7]

At the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships, Glasgow, Scotland, she won gold medal in the Women's 4 × 100 m Freestyle Relay 34pt as a heat swimmer, silver medal in the Women's 4 × 100 m Medley Relay 34pts as a heat swimmer, fourth in the Women's 100m Breaststroke SB6, seventh in the Mixed 4x50m Freestyle Relay 20pts, ninth in the Women's 50m Butterfly S6 and thirteenth in the Women's 50m Freestyle S6.[19]
